I can tell you why I open chests.
1. It's fun. I play the game for fun. 2. Contrary to some people's opinion, it doesn't cost that much. In the past it was actually profitable to open chests, but these days, given many factors, the demand for most items you get from the chests is rather low. However, there are still good mods and skins to be had. I would concede that, if you are new to the game and don't have much gold to spare, it may not be economical to open chests any more - which is a shame (ref. #1) 3. I have 9,962 chests opened, so I may as well go for the title. (However, I don't/won't "chest farm".) 4. It also affects my lucky/unlucky titles, but that's not why I do it. Also, if after opening 4k chests the average remains, I think it can be considered an average. q9 15^50 items go for 10-25k depending on item, and you get one of those not often, but often enough.. Sup Vigs do a lot etc. If you're really that unlucky, then I guess chest running isn't your thing. It could be my vision is blurred, because it's really hard for me to keep track of whether or not I make money, since my chest running is in between DoASC's. So, I make quite an amount of money there too... |

In my experience (~5k chests) you do come close to making money back, but its probably a small loss (10-20%) (I run Boreal mostly, with some jade sea, pongmei and mirror of lyss thrown in for variety). Some stacks of picks are indeed profitable. Some you only get junk. Measure for measure, selling the popular mods and, of course, elite tomes help out. |
